Latest research from Visit Britian values tourism in the UK at a massive £85 billion in 2005 with:
- 80% of this generated by domestic tourism
- Roughly 25% is accounted for by the “retail experience”
- 17% accounted for by spending by overseas visitors during their visit to the UK
In real terms UK tourism is now back to where it was in 2000.
This £10 billion rise from the previous valuation illustrates the importance of the sector for the UK economy.
